Technical Lead

Tech Lead role at one of Australia's most recognised automotive media platforms, React and Next.js stack, $160k-$170k, Sydney.

You'll lead a squad of engineers through end-to-end technical delivery, spending roughly half your time writing and reviewing code yourself. The other half is keeping the squad moving: grooming backlogs, unblocking engineers, calling out over-engineering early, and making sure sprint goals actually get met.

Three days in the office each week in Sydney, with the rest remote. The stack is TypeScript, React, Next.js, GraphQL via Apollo, and Node, deployed on AWS. You'll own front-end performance metrics directly, Web Vitals, error rates, response times, and you'll have visibility into the full observability picture through logging and tracing. The team runs Agile properly, not just in name, with real backlog planning, grooming, and retrospectives.

The engineering culture here is high standards, high velocity, and the Principal Engineer you'll report to has a clear view of what good looks like. They promote from within when people earn it, and the tech leads already on the team set a strong benchmark. You'll be expected to match it, and the salary is benchmarked to reflect that.

What You'll Do

• Lead sprint delivery for your squad, grooming and estimating requirements with TAs, QAs, and developers to keep velocity consistent.
• Step in to resolve blockers, performance issues, and security concerns, and run POCs to de-risk complex items before they hit the sprint.
• Write production code every sprint, architect solutions that are performant and cost-efficient, and own coding standards, review processes, and test coverage.
• Work across the product team, delivery manager, and external vendors to surface conflicting requirements early and keep delivery on track.

What You'll Need

• 8+ years hands-on experience in front-end or full-stack development with TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
• 2+ years leading a squad of three or more engineers, with a track record of delivery at pace.
• Solid grounding in non-functional requirements: front-end performance, observability, logging, and tracing.
• Experience building and deploying on AWS, GCP, or Azure, with working knowledge of GraphQL, CI/CD, containerisation, and high-availability system patterns.
