Senior Software Engineer

Backend-heavy serverless engineering on one of Australia's fastest-growing automotive marketplaces, $140-160k, hybrid in Sydney.

You'll work across the full stack but spend most of your time in the backend, building and maintaining serverless APIs and applications on AWS. Day to day that means TypeScript and Node with AWS Lambda, architecting solutions that are reliable, cost-efficient, and built to handle real traffic. You'll also mentor junior and offshore developers and contribute to architecture decisions alongside a Technical Lead.

The team runs hybrid with three days in the office at McMahons Point. The stack is modern throughout: TypeScript, Node, React, AWS Lambda, serverless frameworks, and SQL and NoSQL databases. CI/CD, observability, and the AWS Well-Architected Framework are part of how they actually work, not just things that appear in job ads. You'll have genuine input into feasibility, effort, and risk conversations at the product level, and you'll run POCs to de-risk complex work before it hits the sprint.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, not a people manager title. You'll set standards, review code, and influence architecture without carrying a team headcount. The team is growing with clear ambition to become Australia's second-largest automotive marketplace, so the engineering problems are getting more interesting as the platform scales.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain serverless APIs and backend applications using TypeScript, Node, and AWS Lambda.
• Architect solutions with security, performance, and cost-efficiency in mind, referencing frameworks like AWS Well-Architected.
• Mentor junior and offshore developers on code quality, architecture, and engineering standards.
• Run POCs to de-risk complex items and contribute to feasibility and effort discussions in product planning.

What You'll Need

• 6+ years of full stack development experience with strong commercial TypeScript and Node skills.
• Hands-on AWS Lambda and serverless development experience, building APIs and backend applications end-to-end.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps fundamentals including observability.
• Familiarity with serverless frameworks like SST or Serverless Framework, and ORMs like Prisma or Sequelize is a bonus.
