Red Hat Satellite Engineer

Manage Red Hat Satellite across a RHEL estate running into the thousands of servers, inside one of Australia's largest professional services firms.

You'll design, implement, and maintain Red Hat Satellite to automate provisioning, patching, and software lifecycle management at genuine enterprise scale. Day-to-day you're building content views, managing Capsule Servers across multiple locations, writing Ansible playbooks, and working with security teams to keep the Linux environment compliant. This is hands-on infrastructure work, not oversight.

The technical environment is serious. You're working across RHEL, Red Hat Satellite 6.x, Ansible Automation Platform, Red Hat Insights, VMware, and a CI/CD toolchain that includes Jenkins, GitLab, and GitHub Actions. Terraform and OpenShift are in the mix too. You'll produce runbooks and documentation, so the work you do actually gets captured and shared across the team.

The team sits across infrastructure, platform, security, and automation, so you'll have plenty of context around what you're building and why. Enterprise scale means the problems are real and the blast radius of a poorly planned patch cycle is significant. That keeps the work interesting. There's room to grow into Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and identity management if you want to broaden beyond core Satellite administration.

What You'll Do

• Design and administer Red Hat Satellite, including content views, lifecycle environments, Capsule Servers, and Kickstart provisioning across a large RHEL estate.
• Build and maintain patch management strategies and automated provisioning workflows using Ansible Automation Platform and Bash or Python scripting.
• Work with security teams to enforce CIS benchmarks and organisational compliance standards across Linux infrastructure.
• Produce technical documentation, operational runbooks, and support major Red Hat upgrades and lifecycle projects.

What You'll Need

• Strong commercial experience administering RHEL at enterprise scale, with hands-on Red Hat Satellite 6.x implementation and support experience.
• Solid understanding of content views, lifecycle environments, Capsule Servers, activation keys, host collections, subscription management, and Kickstart provisioning.
• Experience with Bash or Python for automation, YUM/DNF package management, Git, and working in ITIL-governed environments.
• Ansible Automation Platform experience is highly desirable, as are Red Hat certifications such as RHCE, RHCSA, or the Specialist in Deployment and Systems Management.
