About this role
Observability Engineer role, greenfield monitoring stack, building visibility across a modern cloud environment from the ground up.
You'll design and build observability pipelines covering metrics, logs, and traces across cloud-based infrastructure. You'll own tooling decisions, set standards for how the engineering org instruments its systems, and work closely with platform and development teams to make sure nothing goes dark when it matters.
The environment is modern and the work is genuinely technical. You'll get to shape how observability is done rather than inheriting a legacy setup and patching it. Tools typically in play for roles like this include the OpenTelemetry ecosystem, Prometheus, Grafana, and one or more major cloud providers, whether that's AWS, Azure, or GCP. You'll have real input into architecture decisions from day one.
This is a role where you work across the full engineering organisation. You'll need to be comfortable advising developers on instrumentation best practice and translating what the data is saying into something actionable for the broader team. The culture tends to reward people who take ownership and follow things through without being asked twice.
What You'll Do
- Design and build observability pipelines covering distributed tracing, metrics collection, and centralised log aggregation.
- Define instrumentation standards and work with development teams to embed them consistently across services.
- Maintain and improve alerting frameworks to reduce noise and surface genuine signals faster.
- Contribute to incident response processes, using observability data to support root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
What You'll Need
- Hands-on experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Dynatrace, or the OpenTelemetry stack.
- Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP, and how distributed systems behave at scale.
- Experience instrumenting applications and working with engineering teams to improve system visibility.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or similar.
About the Company
They're a technology-focused organisation running cloud-based infrastructure at meaningful scale. Engineering is taken seriously here, tooling decisions are made by the people doing the work, and the team has the backing to build things properly.
