Infrastructure Platform Manager

Permanent

About this role

Lead the platform modernisation programme for an established Australian enterprise software company, owning the infrastructure foundations that underpin their entire product suite.

You'll take ownership of the platform engineering function, leading a geographically dispersed team through a real modernisation agenda. That means improving standards across cloud, CI/CD, authentication, APIs, observability and security by design, while keeping the lights on and managing the BAU pressure that comes with running enterprise-scale infrastructure. You'll also be laying the groundwork for AI/ML workloads, including GPU-backed inference and model-serving infrastructure, as the product roadmap moves in that direction.

The environment is genuinely technical. This company builds and ships its own software, so the platform team sits close to product and engineering. You'll have the seniority to make real architectural calls and translate those decisions into investment priorities and risk conversations at the business level. The stack includes Linux environments, Java-based enterprise platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and modern identity patterns like OIDC/OAuth2 and SSO. There's meaningful work across microservices, API management and integration architecture.

This is a role where you'll manage technical debt and long-term architecture goals at the same time, which isn't always comfortable. What you get in return is real authority over platform direction, a team that needs credible technical leadership rather than process management, and a product company where platform decisions actually matter to what ships.

What You'll Do

  • Lead platform modernisation across cloud, automation, CI/CD, observability and security architecture while maintaining operational stability.
  • Build and develop a technically credible platform engineering team operating across distributed locations and multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Define and progress the platform roadmap, including infrastructure foundations for future AI/ML and inference workloads.
  • Translate platform complexity, technical debt and architecture trade-offs into clear business choices and investment priorities for non-technical audiences.

What You'll Need

  • 10+ years in infrastructure, platform engineering, cloud engineering or architecture, with at least 5 years leading technical teams or platform functions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading platform modernisation, architecture migration or major technical transformation at enterprise scale.
  • Hands-on background across cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, DevOps operating models, and modern authentication patterns including OIDC/OAuth2 and SSO.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments, Java-based enterprise platforms, microservices and API management; exposure to AI/ML infrastructure or GPU-backed workloads is a genuine advantage.

About the Company

They're an established Australian enterprise software company with a long track record in the mid-market. The engineering team builds and maintains its own product suite, which means the platform function sits at the centre of everything that ships. It's a mature environment with a real modernisation agenda underway.
