Founding AI Engineer

Build the AI platform that runs an entire portfolio of real operating businesses, from day one, in Sydney.

You'll design and ship the core AI platform that powers a growing portfolio of services businesses being rebuilt from the ground up. That means multi-agent systems, RAG pipelines, knowledge graphs, agentic orchestration, evals, and production deployment. You'll work directly with operators inside each business, turning their tacit expertise into systems that can act on it.

This is a four-day-in-person role in Sydney CBD. The in-person requirement is real and intentional. The team builds together, and the feedback loops that come from sitting next to operators inside live businesses are a big part of what makes the work move fast. Some weeks you'll ship something that removes friction overnight. Others, you're laying foundations that reshape how every business in the portfolio runs. You need to be comfortable moving between both without being told which is which.

The team is small and the bar is genuinely high. The founders and engineers here have built and scaled companies of real consequence, and they hold each other to it. You'll have founding-level equity, $200k-$260k base, and the kind of autonomy that comes from a flat team with no committees and no fundraise pressure. The company is backed by operating cashflows, so there's no exit clock ticking. Advisors include engineers and researchers behind some of the most significant AI work shipped in recent years, and they're actively involved in shaping technical direction.

What You'll Do

• Design multi-agent systems that automate complex, multi-step operations end-to-end across the business portfolio.
• Build and own the core AI platform including knowledge graphs, RAG, agentic orchestration, evals, and production deployment.
• Codify solutions into reusable platform primitives so one answer works across every business the company acquires.
• Own production rigour across cost, latency, and reliability so the systems actually hold up at scale.

What You'll Need

• Production experience building with LLMs and agents, including evals and deployment under real SLAs.
• Full-stack capability across data layer, AI orchestration, backend, frontend, and cloud infrastructure.
• A background that combines high-quality engineering discipline, ideally from a strong engineering culture, with genuine zero-to-one experience at a startup or in a founding role.
• Comfort building inside messy, incomplete systems where the spec and the database rarely agree.
