Design the AWS architecture that underpins one of Victoria's most significant public sector organisations.
You'll own end-to-end solution architecture across AWS-centred initiatives, working alongside engineers, security teams, and delivery partners to translate business requirements into designs that can actually be built. The role spans cloud architecture, SaaS integration, and identity patterns through Microsoft Entra ID.
Government means governance. You'll produce architecture decision records, solution diagrams, and technical designs that meet enterprise security and privacy standards, not just whiteboard concepts. The environment is complex, with AWS as the primary cloud platform connecting to SaaS applications and legacy enterprise systems that have been around for a while. If you like architecture problems that have real constraints, this is the kind of work that keeps you busy.
You'll have the autonomy to define patterns across availability, resilience, monitoring, and cost management rather than inheriting someone else's decisions. The organisation is large enough that your designs will touch services used by Victorians every day, and mature enough that there's a proper architecture practice to work within. Familiarity with TOGAF, ArchiMate, or Sparx EA will serve you well here, and experience in a government or large enterprise setting means you'll understand the pace and the rigour expected.
What You'll Do
- Design and document AWS architectures across compute, networking, storage, security, integration, and observability.
- Define API and event-driven integration patterns connecting AWS workloads, SaaS platforms, and legacy enterprise systems.
- Design identity and access patterns across AWS IAM and Microsoft Entra ID, covering federation, authentication, and authorisation.
- Guide engineers and delivery partners through architecture reviews and ensure designs meet governance, privacy, and security requirements.
What You'll Need
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect or Senior Technical Architect with substantial hands-on AWS design experience.
- Deep AWS knowledge across compute, networking, storage, IAM, encryption, disaster recovery, and observability.
- Experience integrating AWS with SaaS applications, APIs, and legacy enterprise systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and identity federation across cloud and SaaS services.
