Hands-on AWS contract role, enterprise-scale platform, working across EKS, Terraform and CI/CD in a cloud-first engineering team.
You'll design, build and operate secure AWS infrastructure across an enterprise environment. Day-to-day that means writing modular Terraform, tuning CI/CD pipelines, managing containerised workloads on EKS and keeping the platform observable, reliable and cost-efficient. You'll work closely with Platform Engineers, DevOps, Security and Software Engineering teams.
The team runs a modern cloud-native stack throughout. Terraform and Terragrunt for IaC, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI for pipelines, EKS and Docker for containers, and CloudWatch, Grafana or Datadog for observability. The breadth of AWS services in play is real, covering everything from VPC and Transit Gateway networking through to Lambda, EventBridge, DynamoDB and Secrets Manager.
This is a contract engagement, so you'll be expected to contribute quickly and work with a reasonable degree of independence. The team values engineers who can make considered decisions without needing a lot of hand-holding, and there's genuine scope to influence how the platform evolves. If you enjoy mentoring less experienced engineers alongside the hands-on build work, that'll be well received here too.
What You'll Do
- Design and build secure AWS infrastructure using Terraform, covering networking, compute, storage and security services at enterprise scale.
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins, with a focus on release automation and deployment reliability.
- Deploy and manage containerised workloads on EKS using Docker and Helm, including container networking and service discovery.
- Implement monitoring and observability across the platform using CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus or Datadog, and support incident response and root cause analysis.
What You'll Need
- Strong commercial AWS experience across EC2, EKS, Lambda, VPC, RDS, IAM, CloudFront, Secrets Manager, KMS, CloudWatch and related services.
- Terraform for modular IaC development, with CloudFormation as a secondary skill and Terragrunt desirable.
- Hands-on CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins, plus solid Git workflow and release automation practices.
- Kubernetes (EKS), Docker and Helm for containerised workload management, alongside scripting in Python or Bash for platform automation.
