Head of Data Science

Head of Data Science role, greenfield team build, full ownership of the function from day one.

You'll lead and grow a data science function, setting the technical direction and delivering models and analytics that feed directly into business decisions. This means hands-on work alongside strategic oversight, building the team, the processes, and the outputs at the same time.

The work arrangement hasn't been locked in yet, so there's flexibility to discuss what suits you. You'll have real autonomy over tooling and methodology rather than inheriting a rigid stack someone else chose. The environment is one where data science is treated as a core function, not a support service bolted on after the fact.

This is a rare chance to shape something from scratch. You'll define how the team operates, which problems it takes on, and how it communicates findings to the wider business. If you've spent time in a mature function and wanted more say over direction, this is the kind of role where that frustration turns into something useful.

What You'll Do

• Lead the data science function, setting technical direction and building out team capability over time.
• Develop and deploy machine learning models and statistical analyses that inform commercial decisions.
• Work closely with senior leadership to identify high-value problems and translate them into data science briefs.
• Establish best practices for model development, validation, deployment, and ongoing performance monitoring.

What You'll Need

• Proven experience leading a data science team, including hiring, mentoring, and setting technical standards.
• Strong applied machine learning and statistical modelling skills across Python, R, or equivalent.
• Experience taking models from development through to production in a business environment.
• Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to non-technical senior audiences.
