Role details
Define and govern the enterprise architecture for one of Australia's most recognised public infrastructure authorities.
You'll lead the Architecture function end-to-end, setting the vision, standards, and roadmaps that shape how a large and complex organisation invests in and modernises its technology. Day-to-day, that means governing architecture reviews, guiding a team of Enterprise Architects across major programs, and working directly with executive leadership to translate business strategy into actionable technology direction.
This is a senior leadership role inside a large public sector organisation, so you'll have the weight of a well-resourced environment behind you. Mature governance structures, cross-functional relationships with Cyber Security, EPMO, and Technology Operations, and the kind of long-horizon planning that genuinely lets architecture do its job properly. The technology estate spans application, data, integration, cloud, and infrastructure domains, so the scope is real.
The organisation is in active modernisation mode. There's meaningful work to do on target-state architecture, technical debt reduction, and building out capability frameworks and career pathways for the team. You'll have genuine influence over investment proposals and business cases at the executive level, and the autonomy to shape how the architecture practice operates from the ground up.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and roadmaps that align technology investment to long-term business outcomes.
- Establish and run architecture governance frameworks, including review processes, standards compliance, and structured management of technical debt.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Architecture team, building capability frameworks, career pathways, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Advise executive and senior stakeholders on architecture trade-offs, contributing directly to investment proposals, business cases, and governance forums.
What You'll Need
- Extensive experience leading enterprise architecture functions in large, complex organisations, with a track record of maturing architecture practices.
- Broad technical knowledge across application, data, integration, cloud, and infrastructure architecture, with TOGAF, ArchiMate, or equivalent certification.
- Demonstrated experience leading technology modernisation or digital transformation programs, including developing target-state architectures and transition roadmaps.
- Strong understanding of security, privacy, regulatory compliance, and technology risk management as they apply to architecture decision-making.
About the Company
They're a major public infrastructure authority with a significant technology estate and a broad remit that touches millions of Australians. The organisation is in an active period of technology modernisation, with executive commitment to architecture-led investment and long-term strategic planning.
