CTO

First CTO hire at a Sydney-based CFD trading company, with a new crypto vertical to build from the ground up.

You'll own the entire product and technology function, reporting directly to the Founder and CEO. That means product, engineering, data, and systems all sit with you. You'll assess what exists, clear the technical debt backlog, set the roadmap across a live CFD trading platform and proprietary infrastructure, and lay the foundations for a new digital asset vertical targeting real revenue within two to three years.

There's no established playbook here. The company is privately held, scaling fast, and genuinely committed to building something. You'll have direct founder access and real budget authority from day one. The founder wants a partner who'll make the hard calls, not someone who waits for sign-off before acting.

The trade-off is real: this is a build role inside a business that hasn't had a CTO before. You'll be creating structure that doesn't currently exist, across multiple business units, while keeping the existing platform running and the business moving. What you get in return is full ownership of the function, a seat at the table on every major decision, and the kind of mandate that rarely comes with a role at this stage of a company's growth.

What You'll Do

• Audit the existing technology stack, identify technical debt, and own the remediation roadmap across CFD trading infrastructure and supporting systems.
• Define and deliver the product roadmap, shifting retention from a customer service dependency to product-led stickiness.
• Build the engineering function: delivery cadences, sprint standards, intake and prioritisation models, and health metrics that leadership can rely on.
• Establish the product and technology foundation for a new crypto vertical, from architecture decisions through to team hiring.

What You'll Need

• Background in fintech, CFD, forex, digital assets, or another high-volume digital trading environment.
• Proven experience running product and engineering across multiple squads or business units simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to assess a complex, imperfect technology environment and make sound prioritisation calls quickly.
• Experience inside a scale-up navigating a genuine revenue inflection, with a track record of building structure in ambiguous conditions.
